Introducing...

My name is Alexis Jewell Mitchem, and you are invited to read an exclusive introduction to briefly learn about the story of my life. Twenty-one years ago, I graced this world with my existence on October 10th, 1999 at 9:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning. I am the youngest of my three sisters and I live in Trenton, New Jersey and have resided in the garden state my entire life. There were many aspirations that I believed I was destined to fulfill. I imagined becoming a teacher, a lawyer, and I even dreamt of becoming a firefighter. In my mind there was an abundance of opportunities for me to achieve success I just needed to make my dreams into reality. Aside from my childhood ambition, I have always been a proud athlete and when I was 5 years old, I picked up my first basketball and have been dribbling ever since. Unbeknownst to me I unlocked a competitive trait within myself, and a passion for team collaboration. Sports always provided me with a community of support, and I found that being a part of something special makes you special. Basketball was my first love; however, I developed a peak interest in a multitude of other physical activities. I was a part of the track team, soccer team, lacrosse team, and I even tried participating in golf which was fun but short lived. Being a teammate was rewarding to be because I was surrounded by other girls who inspired devotion and added to my growth as a person. My appreciation for sports is unwavering, but there is nothing else that I hold dear to my heart more than music. Whether the musical sound comes from a voice or an instrument I am immediately consumed with pure joy.

Moreover, when I was younger, I developed a strong aptitude for learning and being a student. My high school experience was uneventful, and I had an introverted demeanor that I used to fuel my elevation towards my academics. Junior year is when I was first exposed to what is now the psychology career that I am pursing. The motivation to help other people and contribute to a cause that is designed to treat, advise, and rehabilitate ignited the figurative light bulb in my head. I decided to pursue the psychological field, because my dedication to learn about the interknit process of the different variables of the conscious mind will assist in combating the epidemic of mental illness. In short, I am certain that you have discovered an abundance of new information that I guarantee has given you some perspective about my life’s journey. A student, a musician, an athlete, a future psychologist encompasses the very identity that makes me who I am today.
